First Communion
Instruction

All Ages Welcome!

First Communion Instruction is an opportunity for children (and their adults!) to learn more about the theology, history, and meaning of this sacrament that is essential to our faith.

Peace Lutheran Church practices Open Table Communion, which means that all people are welcome to receive the bread and wine. It does not matter what one's belief, age, race, nationality, sexuality, ethnic background, cognitive ability, physical limitations, etc. is, it is Christ who welcomes all to the table to "do this in remembrance" of him.

First Communion Instruction is not required for one to receive communion at Peace, however we recognize that some instruction can be helpful to children so that they have an understanding of why they are joining in this worship practice.

Peace offers First Communion Instruction annually during the season of Lent. Children of all ages are welcome to join in learning about the history, theology, and importance of this blessed sacrament. We use a resource from Pastor Daniel Erlander called A Place for You, which engages kids through story, illustrations, activity pages, and conversation prompts.

Parents are invited to engage in the instruction with their children and First Communion is celebrated on Maundy Thursday.
